The Metro, Boston - 1 July 1981

“The most distinct difference(and highly missed) aspect of Squeeze’s performance today to the days of Jools is their obvious lack of humor and showmanship. Outside of Chris’ hoola dance, Glenn’s general sporadic movements, and John’s usual bopping from stage left to stage right, the band appeared pretty glum and too serious for thier own good. Sure, Glenn has a master voice and is a supreme guitar player - and a charming person to look at, I might add - but he’s no front man... as yet. I’m not knocking the band, I’m just lolling in senseless nostalgia. What’s more, Squeeze seem to have a ‘heavier’ sound. Was it Jools’ influence for their lighter quality before? I missed that bouncy lilt in concert.” - Carol
