CAT ON THE WALL - original lyrics (not used) by Chris Difford
First thing you know she's zipping out of jeans And slipping on a ladies skirt She talks about her hair once there was a dream Now everybody's passing the word
When she comes home to her bedsitting world Everything's slung on the bed Boy magazines with no mention of girls Maybe you'll be on there instead
Last thing you see she's mirroring her face And smelling like a flower in spring The door's on the latch and she's dragging a case Full of silver bracelets and rings
Chorus: Hookin' on to sad eyes Lookin' on to the stalls If you tell her she's funny She purrs like a cat on the wall
These are the original lyrics from the publishing company - they were changed for the release of the Packet of Three EP with “Last thing you see she’s mirroring her face” to “Last thing you see mirror smashed in her face” - it was the year of punk, after all. Note - the original title was Cat On The Wall and not Cat On A Wall.
CAT ON A WALL - actual lyrics (used for the Packet Of Three EP) by Chris Difford
First thing you know she's zipping out of jeans And slipping on a ladies skirt She talks about him once there was a dream Now everybody's passing the word
She comes home to her bedsitting world Everything is slung on the bed Boy magazines with no mention of girls Maybe you'll be on there instead
Last thing you see a mirror smashed in her face She’s smelling like a flower in spring The door's on the latch and she's dragging a case Full of silver bracelets and rings
Chorus: Hookin’ on to sad eyes Steppin’ down in the hall If you tell her she’s funny She stops like a cat on a wall
