The Sugarmill, Hanley - review by Helen Burns

I’d like to review this gig but I spent most of it stuck in a traffic jam outside Manchester. Maggie, Susan and I managed to catch the last 40 minutes of the set, and it felt like it had been a good evening. I had been ready for a stand up rock gig after two seated venues and the Sugarmill looks like the ideal place. The capacity audience all seem to have had a good night and Glenn was at home here. I can’t tell you what he played as I wasn’t there for most of it.

I think this tour is going pretty well on the whole and Glenn seems to be enjoying himself. I hope he’s also enjoyed his two days off during which he was planning to do some more writing. The album is still on course for Spring and he intends to produce it himself this time. Still no title though, although most of the tracks have taken shape now. Some of them are written solely by Glenn and other co-written with various people (Chris Braide, Steve Poltz…..). The plan is still to tour the UK and US with a band, although he doesn’t yet know how many musicians will be in it.

I’m looking forward to Scarborough on Saturday. Not only will almost all the Listers I know be there, but Ted and Lou will be over for Christmas by then so Glenn will be a happy bunny!
